MTCSC and Stafford County Join Area Academics in Exploring Public-Private Partnership for Regional Technology Research Center
MTCSC and Stafford County hosted the 2010 Economic Symposium, which joined area academics in exploring a public-private partnership for development of a Regional Technology Research Center
Citing anticipated growth resulting from Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and the need for continued job growth in Stafford County, MTCSC, the County of Stafford and regional academic institutions entered into an agreement to explore a public-private partnership focusing on providing support for the creation of a regional technology research center.
Specifically, the MOU joins these partners in a three year agreement in which they will explore the possibilities of providing “academic services, research and economic development opportunities” in the area. One of the goals would be the establishment of a Technology and Research Center which would involve academics, research and development, and other economic growth opportunities.
“By bringing together the County, our areas strong academic institutions, and MTCSC, we are assembling a coalition which delivers a unique set of skills that will help make this regional technology and research center a reality,” stated Susan Stimpson, a member of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors, who has played an instrumental role in moving this effort forward. “Stafford County is ideal for a technology and research center which will bring high paying jobs and better quality of life to our region. This is an exciting day, and I believe that working together we are going to deliver unlimited potential and opportunity for our community.”
The agreement was presented at the 2010 Economic Symposium which was hosted by Stafford County and MTCSC, taking place at MTCSC’s office complex in Quantico Corporate Center. Headlining the symposium was Congressman Rob Wittman, State Senator Richard Stuart, and Chairman of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors Mark Dudenheffer and Susan Stimpson.
MTCSC served as a venue for these elected officials to discuss pertinent issues facing our region, including current federal in-sourcing efforts, economic development and job growth, and their vision for our region. Also providing remarks at this event was Colonel Douglas Stilwell, Director of Strategic Vision Group of Marine Corps Combat Development Command.
“MTCSC looks forward to working with these partners to help create a vibrant technology and research hub that will help create jobs and enhance opportunities for business, government and academia,” stated John Roehl, Vice President of Technical Solutions at MTCSC. “We are pleased to offer our expertise and leadership support in this effort, and are excited about the potential as we move forward.”
